As the Quick Response (QR) code trend builds momentum, Bozell decided to add their own two pixels, so to speak. So a couple designers and programmers quickly created, branded and launched a QR code generator, QRinkle (http://www.qrinkle.com).
Through the free web application, users can input any URL, and QRinkle will create a downloadable QR code directing users to that URL. QRinkle also offers advanced campaign tracking through Google Analytics, and integrates the QR code campaign results into your website’s analytics data, making it easy to assess the QR code’s effectiveness. The easy-to-embed code can then be added to packaging, fliers, posters, brochures, ads, just about anything.
According to Scott Rowe, Bozell’s partner-in-charge of digital marketing, QRinkle was designed to not just help people use QR codes, but to make using them easy and effective as possible.
Why would Bozell develop and offer this program that’s fast and easy for anyone to use for free? Because they can. Bozell’s staffers wanted to see how quickly they could create a simple yet effective web solution.
The intent was to test rapid prototyping and creation of an app with a small team. Overall, from concept to launch, QRinkle took the four-person Bozell team the equivalent of two days to complete. They plan to continue to build upon and improve QRinkle over time, but the team agreed that speed to market with core functionality was paramount. Fighting the tendency to overthink and overplan for how the product would develop overtime was a strong learning of the exercise.
In addition to the free QR code generator, the agency creates branded QR codes that integrate a company’s logo in with the pixels, such as the Bozell QR code shown on the app.
